Kim Eberst

Kim tragically died in a diving accident on Monday 16th August 2010.

Kim’s caring nature drew her naturally to welfare work. At St Matthew’s Family Centre, she worked with young families, providing support and encouragement. Later, as a Welfare Rights Officer she tackled debt creditors, appeals panels and benefit agencies to get the best possible outcomes for her clients.

Kim’s numerous interests and hobbies included wildlife, diving, cooking, photography and travel. Her love of nature led to her becoming a Marine Mammal Medic volunteer, trained to rescue seals, and to her role on the Dundee Naturalists committee. Her enthusiasm for wildlife had led to her and Alistair travelling far and wide, but she was just as happy exploring the woods and hills that surrounded her in Scotland.

Diving was, for her, another way of experiencing nature in the raw. Having worked hard to overcome her initial nervousness, she felt that her goal of opening up the underwater realm was in her sights. She planned to go on holiday in September as a qualified diver and was determined to achieve that goal, no matter how many trainers she had to pester to get there. And slowly and surely she was working her way towards it.

Her joy for life, dedication and commitment were only matched by her loving and caring nature. Kim could always find humour in the most trying of situations and lift people’s spirits wherever she was.

She leaves behind a husband, Alistair, Matthew her son, family and many friends.
